There are typescripts and magazine cuttings of many of her stories and articles published in the Saturday Evening Post, Argosy, Nash's Magazine, Pearson's Magazine, Liberty Ladies Home Journal, Women's Weekly (Australian) and Hearst's International-Cosmopolitan. Also included are her drafts and unpublished articles, together with typescripts and magazine cuttings of stories by her husband Walter MacKenzie Cottrell.

Dorothy Wilkinson was born at Picton, N.S.W. She contracted infantile paralysis at the age of five and was thereafter confined to a wheelchair. She was brought up on her uncles' stations of Ularunda an Elmina in S.W. Queensland. She trained originally as an artist. In 1922 she married Walter MacKenzie Cottrell.
